What Will Happen to Me When I Die?

If you have not considered this question, you should. Many people die suddenly. Some even die young. The Bible says in the book of James, chapter 4 verse 14, “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”

If you don’t know what would happen to you if you died today, then you need to figure it out right now! Tomorrow might be too late.

Why Do I Need to be Saved?

The following information will scare you, but it’s true. God’s Word, the Bible, is always true, and it tells us a frightening truth about our sin and its consequences.

The Bible clearly explains our need for salvation in the book of Romans:

Romans 3:10 “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Everyone has been condemned by God because we have sinned. When we die, God says that we will stand before Him and be judged.

Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”

God is a righteous judge who refuses to allow any sin to go unpunished. Thankfully, the second half of Romans 6:23 gives us hope. “but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Because you have sinned, God must punish you with eternal death in hell when you die. Jesus Christ spoke of hell in Luke chapter 16. He tells us a story of a rich man who spent his life focused on enjoyment and chose to ignore thinking about eternity: “the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments,”

What Must I Do to be Saved?

When God, as a righteous judge, condemns your sin and sentences you to eternal death in hell, you only have two options. Pay the price of your sin yourself (death and hell) or allow Jesus Christ to pay your sin debt for you.

Jesus died to pay the price for sin for you. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:21, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” God the Father made God the Son to be sin for you and me! He takes our sin and puts it on Jesus Christ. In exchange, we get the perfect sinless righteousness of Jesus Christ put on us! What a wonderful exchange!

Salvation is offered by God as a free gift to us! We don’t earn or even deserve it.

How Do I Receive Such a Gift from God?

Another story in the Bible explains the answer to that question. You can read the story for yourself in Acts chapter 16 verses 12-31, but in it, a jailer asks, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” Paul answered very simply, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved,”

If you accept Jesus Christ as the payment for your sins, then God can defeat death in your life. He can bring you to heaven to live in paradise.

Salvation is given to us by grace. That just means that we don’t deserve it or earn it. Instead, this gift of God is received through faith in the blood sacrifice, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

If you admit your sin before God and believe on Jesus Christ as the only payment for your sins, you will be saved. Once you accept Christ as the payment for your sins, your eternal destiny changes from hell to heaven, death to life. In John 5:24, Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

Simply Talk to God Right Where You Are Right Now.

Admit that you are a sinner and you have broken God’s moral laws. Understand that your sin has earned you death and hell. Ask God to save you from your sin by allowing Jesus Christ to pay your penalty for you. Ask Him to take your sin and put it on Jesus Christ, and to take Jesus Christ’s righteousness and sinlessness and put that on you.

If you just did that from your heart, then you have allowed Jesus Christ to save you from your sin! You were obedient to God, and because of God’s grace, you can now go to heaven when you die!
